Butterton Scarecrow Festival/ Butterton Wakes Summer Festival Bank Holiday Monday 29th August 2022
Our roving reporters today visited Butterton for the above events. The day was a bit overcast but fortunately the weather stayed dry. The first thing they tried to do was to find all the Scarecrows that were placed around the village (all 18 of them). Even with the map they are not sure they found them all but please find below the ones they did. The scarecrows are on display until the 4th September 2022.
The wakes started at 1pm with a church service and crowning of the new queen followed by the Warslow Silver Band leading the way to the Wakes ground.
During the afternoon the Warslow Silver Band played music for the crowds enjoyment. There were various stalls offering crafts etc., also working Steam Engines on display, Moorlands Climate Action, Buxton Mountain Rescue and Wetton and Alstonfield First Responders (who were demonstrating how to do CPR) besides fund raising stalls, a bowls competition and games and face painting for children.
Afternoon teas, hog roast and a bar were also on offer. At 5pm a rock band came on to carry on entertaining the crowd as our roving reporters left.
Below some pictures from the day!
