Congleton Town Council appoints new Responsible Financial Officer

A fond farewell has been said to Jackie Potts, Congleton Town Council’s Responsible Financial Officer. Jackie joined the town council back in 2008, her particular responsibilities involved the smooth running of council committees, overseeing the office and managing the town council finances. After 13 years service, Jackie has stepped down to enjoy the next chapter in her life - retirement.

Speaking about her time at the Town Hall, Jackie said: “I have enjoyed being the Responsible Financial Officer for Congleton Town Council and have seen many changes over the years, from the council taking over the Town Hall in 2008, Streetscape in 2014 and more recently Congleton Information Centre in April 2021. Consequently the budget has become greater and more complex too! I am looking forward to taking things a little easier and am confident that my replacement will be a strong, capable and enthusiastic Responsible Financial Officer.

Serena Van Schepdael, a former Finance Officer at Sandbach Town Council has taken up the post. Serena has just over 20 years of experience in bookkeeping and finance roles which include seven years as Finance Officer within the Town Council sector and is excited to be joining the team. Serena said: “I am really pleased to have the opportunity to work at Congleton, and I am excited to begin this next stage in my career as Responsible Financial Officer. I am looking forward to using my experience and knowledge to work alongside the team and to continue to ensure that the safe handling of the councils finances continue.”

The post will report to David McGifford, Chief Officer at Congleton Town Council. David: “We look forward to welcoming Serena, we’re eager to see her apply her industry experience to successfully take over the reins from the outgoing Responsible Financial Officer.

“I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Jacquie on her length of service and to acknowledge all her achievements during her career at the Town Hall, there are to many to mention! From everybody at Congleton Town Council, we wish Jackie all the best in her future retirement."
