Former Cheadle firefighter honoured on 90th birthday

former firefighter who spent more than a decade working for Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service has been presented with a special badge and certificate to mark his 90th birthday.

Jack Allen, who turned 90 this Tuesday (11 January), worked as part of Cheadle Community Fire Station for 15 years before he retired.

Jack was visited by Chief Fire Officer, Rob Barber, on Tuesday - where he was presented with a special certificate, card and veteran’s badge - in recognition of his time in the service.

Chief Fire Officer, Rob Barber, said: “I was delighted to be able to spend some time with Jack, reminiscing about his time in the service and talking about what he enjoyed back when he donned his firefighter helmet.

"He loved his time in our service and it was so nice to be able to speak to him about his experiences.

“It was lovely hear from Jack and meet his family and I hope the visit brought back some great memories for him.”

At the family’s request, Chief Officer Barber removed his covid mask in order to speak to Jack, who is sometimes hard of hearing.

Mr Barber also completed a lateral flow test, which was negative, prior to carrying out the visit.
