Funding available for projects that help improve the local environment

Community groups from across Staffordshire are being invited to apply for funding for projects that help improve their local environment.

The Staffordshire EnviroGrant programme is being coordinated by Staffordshire County Council and environmental company Veolia and is making grants of up to £1000 available.

The funding is open to not-for-profit organisations, including charities, societies, voluntary and community groups and schools.

Grants could be awarded to projects that help improve waste and recycling, improve the natural environment, or raise awareness of environmental issues. These could include community food gardens, community larders and fridges that help reduce food waste. Schemes that help reduce carbon emissions or promote and improve recycling and re-use such as repair cafes may also be considered for funding.

Staffordshire County Council’s cabinet member for environment, infrastructure and climate change, Simon Tagg said: “As a county council we are committed to making Staffordshire sustainable and improving our environment, but we need local communities to help us achieve this.

“That’s why we are making this funding available to voluntary and community groups of all sizes across the county.  It’s a great opportunity that not only benefits local communities but also helps improve the environments we all live in.

“A wide range of projects and initiatives will be eligible for the funding.  So, whether you’re a small group or a larger registered charity, I’d urge people to get in touch and make an application”.

Regional Director for Veolia. Steve Mitchell said: "Through our EnviroGrant Scheme which forms part of our partnership with Staffordshire County Council we are excited to support local community groups to drive change in waste reduction and to make a positive impact on their community.

“The EnviroGrant scheme really fits in with Veolia's mission to be the leader and driving force towards Ecological Transformation. We believe that by supporting sustainable initiatives, we can ignite a shift in mindset towards mindful consumption, adopt a new perspective on waste as well as helping us to deliver Ecological Transformation.

“If there are groups or projects out there that think they would benefit from our support then we want to hear from them, but we urge groups to make their application as soon as possible."

The closing date for applications is Monday 6th May 2024.
