Karen welcomes funding for the Kenelm Youth Trust, Churnet Valley Railway, the Moors for the Future

Moorlands MP was delighted to learn that organisations in the Moorlands have received funding from the Culture Recovery Fund and also from the Nature for Climate Peatland Grant Scheme

The Culture Recovery Fund for Heritage is administered by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, in partnership with Historic England on behalf of the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport.

Nearly 140 heritage organisations will share £15.5 million from the government’s third-round of the Culture Recovery Fund and in the Moorlands, the Kenelm Youth Trust have been awarded £192,000 and the Churnet Valley Railway, £99,600.

Karen was also pleased to learn that a project taking place in the Moorlands has been awarded a Discovery Grant as part of the Nature for Climate Peatland Grant Scheme.

Through the Nature for Climate Fund, the Government is looking to invest over £50 million in peatland restoration, with a target to restore 35,000 hectares, by 2025. Over £4.5 million has been awarded to ten Discovery Grant projects across England, supporting them to begin the foundation work needed to bring up to 42,000 hectares of peatland under restoration

The project will be led by the Peak District National Park Authority, in collaboration with regional water utilities, wildlife trusts and the Ministry of Defence. The Moors for the Future partnership was awarded £935,000 to begin preparation for restoration of up to 14,310 hectares of blanket bog in the south-west Pennines and the Dark Peak. The project will develop detailed restoration proposals for 63 sites, engaging with stakeholders and addressing evidence and knowledge gaps in the restoration process.

Karen said,

“It is fantastic news that organisations in the Moorlands are getting this vital support. Huge congratulations to all concerned.”
