Macclesfield Welly Walk is back

On Saturday 9th October 10am-3pm, Macclesfield Town Council will be holding their annual Welly Walk and Nature Needs You event – with free outdoor play and nature themed activities - in West Park. The popular, giant storytelling tepee is back, complete with soft cushions and fairy lights to create a cosy atmosphere for children to listen to storytelling. There will be hands on experiences such as supervised flint fire lighting lessons, archery, bird box making and den building, along with old favourites such as marshmallow toasting, craft table, and not forgetting the birds of prey, creepy crawlies and a Welly Walk around the park. Plus lots more. The Welly Wander will involve locating numbered clues around the park and carrying out a small activity to help see the wonder in the great outdoors. Families can drop in at any time during the event to collect their clue sheet. Helena Gowler, Community and Events Manager for Macclesfield Town Council commented that ‘We really missed putting on the Welly Walk and Nature Needs You event last year, and are so glad we can invite people to come and join us in the park this autumn. Everything is outside and with plenty of space and fresh air, we hope children and their adults, will feel comfortable coming to take part in the activities.” The free event which is organised by Macclesfield Town Council, is designed to encourage outdoor play throughout the cooler seasons. The events is now in its fourth year after being postponed due to the COVID pandemic in 2020. The event is delivered together with Macclesfield RSPB Wildlife Explorers. The area to the side of West Park café will be used for the event. Don’t forget your wellies! Queries should be directed to Macclesfield Town Council on 01625 374142 or admin@macclesfield-tc.gov.uk
