All is set for a busy day at the annual Manifold Valley Show on Saturday 13th August with a good weather forecast and a green field ready to host competitions and displays and a warm welcome visitors.
Show Chairman, Nik Searson, has reported “With classes for cattle, sheep, and horses of every description we have plenty of interest for our rural supporters. The homecraft tentgives a chance for locals to display their skills with a special emphasis on youngsters having a go at showing. Indeed the ethos of giving locals a chance to have a go at the showing “game” was highlighted by last years Countryfile programme.
The highlights of the day will be the traditional display of vintage tractors and the “famous” Slow Tractor Race which will be part of the main ring programme which includes Shire Horses, a Sheepdog demonstration, the Red Barrows and a “Chase me Charlie” competition. The day will conclude with the terrier racing where the Clerk of the Course has declared the going as good to firm!”
One hundred trade stands have booked in with a wide range of items for sale including several clothing stalls, agricultural suppliers and nurserymen. The spacious food area offers a choice of eats with a milk bar, coffee van, burger stalls and an ample Bar.
The site is open to the public from 9.30 and the beautiful hilltop site offers free parking with visitors asked to car share as much as possible to ease traffic on the country roads between Ilam and Alstonefield.
