£250,000 highways scheme in Uttoxeter to start next week

Highways crews in Staffordshire will be carrying out improvements and resurfacing work on a busy road and roundabout in Uttoxeter, starting on Monday 30 October.

The scheme on the A518 Bamford Bridge and Bridge Street roundabout in the town, will include resurfacing and repairs and improvements to drainage systems and is expected to take around three weeks to complete.

To allow the works to be carried out safely, temporary lane closures will be in place during the first week, during weekday daytimes. From 6 to 17 November, Town Meadows Way, Bridge Street roundabout and Bamford Bridge will be closed to through traffic for resurfacing works overnight during weekdays.

The scheme is being funded through the Department for Transport’s pothole funding announced earlier in the year and is in addition to a £30 million investment by Staffordshire County Council in its roads over the next two years.

David Williams, Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport at Staffordshire County Council, said: “This is a well-used section of road and busy roundabout in Uttoxeter and it’s important to keep them well maintained and in good condition.

“We know that good roads are important for residents, businesses and of course the economy, which is why we’re investing £30 million over the next two years.

“Crews will be doing their best to keep disruption to a minimum and will be carrying out some of the resurfacing at night to help reduce any inconvenience. I’d like to thank people in advance for their patience while the work is carried out.”

Access to properties and businesses during the works will be maintained where possible. Further information on the works including diversions, can be found on the Staffordshire County Council’s Website.
