Bin lorries damaged after fuel thieves target council depot
11 bin lorries have been damaged by fuel thieves after a council depot was targeted overnight.
The theft is said to have caused serious damage to 11 refuse lorries which left a number of refuse collections unable to take place on Wednesday December 21st.
Leeks Fowlchurch depot was targeted by the thieves on Tuesday night.
A spokesperson for Staffordshire Moorlands District council said
“The Fowlchurch Depot was targeted by fuel thieves overnight on Tuesday 20 December which has caused widespread disruption to the waste collection service.
11 refuse collection vehicles were targeted in total resulting in serious damage to the fuel tanks. Urgent repairs are being carried out, however please be patient during this challenging time as delays in waste collections will be inevitable as a result of the damage.”
Police have had recent reports of diesel thefts in and around Staffordshire Moorlands. If you store large containers of diesel or own any type of haulage police are urging you to be vigilant and should you see anything suspicious, not to hesitate to make contact with the police.
