Congleton Pride ‘Disgusted’ after banner taken down by church

The Congleton pride charity have expressed their disgust after a banner for the 2021 event was removed.

The banner had been in place for 24 hours on a community board around the town that are used by community groups around the town to advertise events. They were informed that the Banner was removed by the New Life Church. The motive for the removal of the banner remains unclear however organisers of the event fear it is discrimination. A number of other churches from Congleton are involved in the event and will have stalls.

Ronan Clayton, chair of Congleton Pride, said: “When we heard the banner had come down after just 24 hours, we assumed it was the wind or maybe an act of vandalism.

"However, on visiting the site, the banner was neatly folded on the ground, and we were then informed that New Life Church had removed it.

“Congleton Pride is a fun event for all the family and invites everyone to join in whatever their religion.”
