Congleton Town Council Celebrates 100 Years of Congleton War Memorial Hospital

Congleton Town Council is thrilled to be staging a spectacular 1920s-themed event in the park on Bank Holiday Monday, 27 May, to commemorate the centenary of the beloved Congleton War Memorial Hospital. This remarkable institution has provided outstanding care and support to the town for 100 years. The town council invites everyone to come along and enjoy a day filled with fun, nostalgia, and free entertainment from 12 noon-5pm.

Organiser, Rachel McCarthy, Town Centre and Events Officer said: "Our community owes so much to the Congleton War Memorial Hospital since its establishment in 1924 and this event is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate its incredible legacy. We encourage everyone to join in the festivities and be part of this historic occasion. Gather up your friends and family for a day to remember. If you don’t get chance to pack a picnic you can pick from a wide range of food and drink stalls on offer.”

This free entry event promises a vibrant mix of activities that will transport people back to the Roaring Twenties. Highlights include:

Live Music and Entertainment: Pomp and ceremony from Silk Brass Band, lively 1920s tunes from Swingamathing and party favourites from Churnet SoundRadio.

RSPCA Dog Show: Enter your furry friends for just £2 and compete for the top spot.

Food & Drink Stalls: Savour delicious treats and refreshments from a variety of local vendors.

Keep the kids entertained: Get hands on in the craft tent,  join in the circus skills workshops and creative facepainting for a small charge of £3 (proceeds to Pancreatic Cancer).

Climbing Wall: Challenge yourself and conquer the climbing wall.

1920s Vintage Cars: Admire a collection of beautifully restored vintage cars from the 1920s.

The town council are encouraging residents to walk to the park if they can as surrounding roads and car parks will be extremely busy. In addition to town centre car parks, free event parking is available on Siemens, Jackson Road and Beresford’s, off Willow Street (opp St Stephen’s Church). There will be designated Blue Badge parking on Hankinson’s field, off Park Road, follow the big blue signs. Mill Green and Park Road will be closed to traffic from 10am-6pm, with access for residents only.
