DOUBLE WIN FOR CONSERVATIVES IN BOROUGH COUNCIL BY-ELECTIONS
Two seats have been won by the Conservative Party in a by-election for Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council.
Counting took place today (Monday, 8 July) after votes were cast on Thursday for two seats in the Madeley and Betley ward, both of which were previously held by Conservative councillors.
The result means that of the 44 seats on the authority, the Conservative Party has 25 seats and Labour has 18, plus one independent.
The two winners were Mandy Berrisford and Jill Whitmore. The votes cast were:
• BERRISFORD Mandy, Conservative, 1,164 votes
• KEARON Tony, Labour, 856 votes
• MORGAN Tanya, Independent, 1,066 votes
• RADFORD Claire Annette, Labour, 736 votes
• WHITMORE Jill, Conservative, 1,084 votes
