Firefighters celebrated following decades of service

We have celebrated more than 10 firefighters for their dedicated service and commitment to communities in Staffordshire this week.

Thirteen attendees were recognised at a ceremony held at our headquarters in Stone on 26 February, including an on-call firefighter who has given the last 40-years of his life to serving local people in Abbots Bromley.

Crew Manager Simon Wilson, who was presented with his award by Chief Fire Officer Rob Barber, said: “I was incredibly thrilled to have my 40 years’ service recognised and would like to thank all my colleagues for their support.

“When I first started at Abbots Bromley, I didn’t expect to still be serving 40 years later. It’s been such a good career that has given me an opportunity to serve the public.”

“I’m incredibly humbled to have been recognised. All of my colleagues here are truly exceptional.

“When I first walked through the doors of Abbots Bromley Fire Station, I didn’t think I’d last four decades! It has been such a rewarding and fulfilling career that has given me an opportunity to serve people in need.

“Working for Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service has allowed me to meet and work with so many wonderful people who go above and beyond to make a difference to our communities and support those most vulnerable when they’re often in the most difficult moments of their lives.”

Station Manager Helen Chadwick, was recognised for her dedication over more than 20 yearsand started out as an on-call firefighter in 2000.

She said: “It feels like a personal achievement but also an honour to have been recognised for my years of service and sharing the moment with my family and colleagues.  

“It only feels like yesterday since I was an on-call firefighter at Leek Fire Station in 2000 and two years later joining as a wholetime firefighter.

“While the journey hasn’t been without it’s challenges, it’s been an honour to work for Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service and work alongside inspiring colleagues to make a difference in communities.”
