FLYING THE FLAG FOR ENGLAND

Newcastle is flying the flag for England before Sunday’s European Championship final against Spain.

The flag of St George is fluttering outside Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council’s headquarters at Castle House as a celebration of the squad’s achievement in reaching their first major final at an overseas tournament.

England’s squad includes Chesterton-raised goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, who took his first steps in the game with Marsh Town.

Simon Tagg, Leader of Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council, said: “Like every English football fan I’m delighted to see England in the final of the Euros for the second time running.“We’re proud to fly the flag on their behalf as a symbol of our support and wish them all the best of luck on Sunday, including our own Aaron Ramsdale.”
