Her Majesty The Queen 1926 – 2022




Following the announcement today of the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II the Chairman of Staffordshire Moorlands, Councillor Tony Holmes, the Leader of the Council, Councillor Paul Roberts, the Leader of the Labour group, Councillor Mike Gledhill, the Leader of the Independents group, Councillor Linda Malyon, the Leader of the Independent Alliance group, Councillor Tony Hall and the Council’s Chief Executive, Andrew Stokes, paid this tribute:

 

“We are truly saddened to hear this news of the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II today and our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the Royal Family.

 

“During her long, un-paralleled reign she has shown every day what it means to a dedicated public servant and the example she has set will guide us all in the days and years to come.

 

“Queen Elizabeth is the only monarch many of us have ever known and we will fondly remember the selfless way in which she fulfilled her duties and her reassuring presence in our lives on so many occasions of national significance.

 

“Her commitment to not just the nations of the UK but also the Commonwealth and communities worldwide has been apparent throughout the last 70 years and our communities in the Moorlands join with all of them in honouring, with gratitude, the remarkable service she has shown.”

 

The flag at Moorlands House in Leek has been lowered to half-mast.

 

Books of condolence will be available for people to express their sentiments at Moorlands House, and at the offices of Biddulph and Cheadle Town Councils, from tomorrow.

 

People who want to lay flowers, or leave candles and messages, and are asked to leave these at the Nicholson War Memorial in Leek town centre, the grassed area in front of Biddulph Town Hall or the area adjacent to the War Memorial on Tean road in Cheadle.
