High sided vehicle asked to avoid A53 as lorry overturns in wind


Staffordshire Police are in attendance at the A53 at Blackshaw moor after a HGV overturned in high winds.


A yellow weather warning for wind is currently in force across the region with winds expected to calm later today.

Police are asking high sided vehicles to avoid travelling on the A53 until winds ease.


AA live traffic news has a restriction and warning placed on the A53.


“Closed to high sided vehicles due to strong winds and earlier rolled over lorry on A53 Leek Road both ways between Flash Bar Stores (Knights Table Travellers Rest) and A54 Macclesfield Main Road. Traffic is coping well.”

A spokesperson for the Staffordshire Moorlands neighbourhood policing team said



“we are at the scene of a high sided HGV which is turned over in high winds on the A53 BLACKSHAW MOOR. Drive is safe and well, but due to high winds We are asking high sided vehicles to avoid the main A53 Blackshaw Moor area until the winds ease. Thank you for your patience”
