Highways improvements to start in Blythe Bridge

A major resurfacing scheme in Blythe Bridge is set to start on Monday 21 November.

Staffordshire County Council’s highways teams will be carrying out essential road and pavement resurfacing work along with drainage repairs and kerbing on the A521 Uttoxeter Road.

The resurfacing work will help extend the life of the road and is part of a wider £5.2 million investment to improve some of the county’s key roads.

To ensure the work can be carried out safely, temporary traffic lights will be in place until 13 January 2023. Following this, from 14th January to 17th May 2023 the road will be closed with a diversion in place via the A50.

Access to homes and businesses on the East side of the railway crossing will be maintained during the closure, and access will be allowed from the East end/Cheadle Road end only. For access to premises and the station car park on the West side of the railway crossing, access will be allowed from the West end/ Grindley Lane end only.

Caverswall Road will also be closed for the same duration from the junction with Uttoxeter Road for 100 metres. Access for residents and businesses will be permitted from the North side only via the diversion. Grindley Lane will be closed for 150 metres for resurfacing for approximately ten days during April with temporary traffic lights in place at other times during the works.

David Williams, Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport at Staffordshire County Council, said: “Good roads are important for residents, motorists and of course the economy and it is important to invest in keeping them safe and well maintained.

“This is an important scheme for the town which will extend the life of the road and keep it in good condition. It’s part of a wider multi-million pound investment in some of our major gateways into towns and villages.

“Highways crews will be doing everything they can to minimise any inconvenience during the works and we would like to thank people in advance for their co-operation.”

The scheme should be completed in May 2023 and people can get more details atwww.staffordshire.gov.uk/Highways/roadworks
