Howzat! Fundraising UHNM vs GP Cricket Match for Pakistan Flood Relief Effort

A fundraising cricket match between University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust (UHNM) consultants and local GPs is hoping to raise as much funds as possible to help those affected by the devastating floods in Pakistan

The showdown between the hospital consultants and the GPs is taking place at Moddershall and Oulton Cricket Club on Saturday 24 September from 12pm.

Money raised from the match will be donated to the Global Relief Trust.

Dr Nadir Khan, Consultant Radiologist at UHNM said: “We have a lot of doctors and staff of Pakistani origin who have been watching these terrible events unfold back home and want to do something to help. This is an opportunity for all UHNM staff to get together along with GP colleagues for the benefit of a country going through a natural disaster.

“We currently have around 14 players on Team UHNM and we would love to welcome more. Everybody can get involved by joining us on the pitch or by just watching and bringing cakes and other items to sell to raise funds.”

Those attending the match will also be able to enjoy food and gift stalls as well as taking part in a fundraising raffle.

Dr Habib Haider, Consultant in Acute Medicine added: “It promises to be a fantastic family day out and I encourage as many members of the local community to join in the fun for a good cause. So far the weather looks good and the cricket club have been very supportive.

“We’re grateful to our colleagues from across UHNM and the Trust itself for being so supportive and standing by the Pakistani community.”

The match comes as staff and patients at UHNM have donated almost £400 to the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) through UHNM staff networks.

Sophie Dale from the DEC said: “It’s fantastic to hear that patients and staff at UHNM have made a donation to the DEC Pakistan Floods Appeal through their staff networks. We are really appreciative of everybody’s support.”
