Industrial building fire in Macclesfield



Shortly before 4am firefighters were called to reports of a fire at an industrial building on Calamine Street. Macclesfield.


Two fire engines from Macclesfield were dispatched to the scene and on arrival they found a well developed fire in a kitchen warehouse measuring approximately 20 metres by 10 metres


An additional four fire engines from Warrington, Penketh, Widnes and Bollington were called to the scene to assist with the incident along with an aerial platform from Lymm.


The crews have spit the building into four sectors and firefighters, wearing breathing apparatus, are currently using two hose reel jets and three main jets to extinguish the fire. They area also using the aerial platform to help tackle the fire from above.


Police are in attendance at the scene and a cordon has been set up as a precaution. Residents in the nearby area are advised to keep their windows and doors closed.


There are no reports of any casualties at this time.

Update - 8am

Firefighters have been tackling the fire for several hours and are making good progress.


Four firefighters, wearing breathing apparatus, are currently using two main jets and a hose reel jet to fight the fire.


The crew have also isolated the electricity to the site.


A cordon remains in place as a precautionary measure and residents in the nearby area are advised to keep their windows and doors closed.


Windmill Street and Calamine Street are currently closed as a result of the incident and a small number of nearby homes have also been evacuated.


Crews are expected to remain at the scene for several hours.
