Join the Staffordshire Day celebrations on 1 May

This year’s Staffordshire Day is fast approaching and with a packed programme of exciting activities and events in store for residents and visitors alike, there will be lots of ways that people can join in the festivities.

Staffordshire has a unique culture, fascinating history, spectacular countryside, and so much to be proud of. This year, on Monday 1 May, we’ll be shouting about sustainability: from home-grown food to home-grown talent, we will be celebrating the many ways our county is doing our bit to reduce our impact on the environment and make Staffordshire more sustainable.

Here's a taste of the exciting events taking place this year – there will be something for everyone to enjoy. The Churnet Valley Breakfast Train will take people on a glorious scenic journey through Churnet Valley, accompanied by a delicious traditional Staffordshire breakfast. Families can enjoy the Funtopia event at Lyme Valley Park, with a range of fun activities and games, including inflatables and character meet and greets. And the Trentham Estate will host the Great British Food Festival, showcasing the best of British produce, chef demonstrations and an artisan market.

The popular Staffordshire Film Competition returns, and this year the theme is ‘learn something new’ - there are three categories for people to enter, including a brand new three-minute short film category. Look out for more information on how to enter coming soon!

We will also be unveiling a specially-commissioned film to celebrate all things Staffordshire, which will be available to view online from 20 April.

Commenting on the upcoming activities, Phillip White, Staffordshire County Council’s deputy leader and cabinet member for economy and skills, said:

“Staffordshire Day is a fantastic opportunity to showcase all that our wonderful county has to offer its residents, businesses, and visitors.

“From our amazing attractions to international businesses, there’s so much to be proud of in this county full of people who are passionate about their local area.

“As a county council, one of our top priorities is sustainability, which is why we’ve chosen it as this year’s theme. We’re doing many things to help our county be more sustainable – some of them quite unusual and not what you may expect! And we want people to think about how we can all play our part in making Staffordshire greener and reducing our impact on the environment, making it better for everyone.
