Karen Bradley MP Column 14.11.22
It was a busy weekend here in the Moorlands with my Community Volunteers Celebration event and of course Remembrance Sunday.
I would like to thank everyone concerned who made the Volunteers event so successful – the Werrington Community Volunteers Group, Moorlands House, the many organisations who had a stand and entered their groups for an award, the Deputy Lord Lieutenant and the other judges as well as the sponsors for the awards, my team and everyone who took time to pop in on Saturday to find out more about volunteering.
Congratulations to the organisations that won an award and thank you to theStaffordshire Cobbler in Leek for helping with the trophies and the engraving. It was so lovely to see so many community groups come together and to see what a wealth of fantastic volunteers we have here in the Moorlands.
As your MP, I am privileged to be invited to a number of Remembrance Services to pay respects on behalf of local residents to those who died in the two World Wars and other conflicts. I was therefore honoured to take part in the Remembrance services in Leek and am grateful to Mike Robinson for layinga wreath in Biddulph on my behalf. I attended the service at The Church of St Edward the Confessor, where I was delighted to read a passage from the Bible and I then proceeded to the Monument for the wreath-laying service. It was an amazing turnout and we were so lucky with the beautiful sunshine.
I would like to say a huge thank you to the Royal British Legion and to everyone who took part in this year’s Poppy Appeal - you are helping provide vital support to our Armed forces community and helping to ensure that their unique contribution is never forgotten. Lest We Forget.
