Local canals closed to conserve water

Caldon Canal, Consall forge- photo: Canal and river trust

The Canal and river trust has announced a number of restrictions and canal closures to conserve water to allow reservoirs to fill following hot weather earlier this year.

The Cauldon Canal has been closed from lock 1 in Etruria to Froghall basin.

The Trent and Mersey canal is also closed between lock 29 in Stone and Lock 71 in Middlewich.

The Peak forest and Macclesfield canal is also closed between lock one, Marple flight and lock 12, Bosley flight.

The canal and river trust say “We are reviewing water levels on a daily basis and will introduce water saving measures as necessary. Similarly, if it rains and we are able to remove or lessen restrictions, we will do so straight away. For real time updates please check the Stoppage Notices.”
