STOKE City got their Championship campaign off to a flying start with a 4-1 victory over Rotherham United at the BET365 Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Two goals from Vidigal in the third minute and eighth minute of time added on after Hoever put the Potters 1-0 up on five minutes put City 3-0 at half-time.

Rotherham struck back early in the second half with a goal from Peltier gave the Yorkshire outfit a chance of turning thongs round, Cafu was red carded for the visitors with Stoke sealing the points in the 90th minute with Brown netting to give the home side a comfortable win in front of a crowd of 22,601.

PORT Vale had a miserable day in South Yorkshire against Barnsley at Oakwell with a 7-0 defeat.

A hat-trick for Coles with goals on 23, 47 and 53 minutes left the Valiants reeling Cole putting the home side in front before a Jones own goal on the stroke of half-time leaving the visitors trailing 2-0.

In the second half Cole scored two goals to make it 4-0 before Kitching on the hour, Russell on 64 minutes and Dallas in the 6th minute of time added on making it a comfortable win for the home side in front of 13,796.

CREWE Alexandra fought back from 2-0 down to take a point from their opening league fixture of the season against Mansfield Town at the Mornflake Stadium on Saturday.

Town, went in front with a brace from Keillor-Dunn who struck in the 22nd minute and 26th to give them a 2-0 lead. The Alex pulled one back six minutes later with Demetriou netting on 32 minutes to make it 2-1 which is how it stayed until half-time.

Mansfield had MacDonald red carded on 58 minutes and the Alex levelled the scores in the 60th minute with a goal from Adebisi and give both sides a share of the spoils in front of a crowd of 5,574.
