Longton Library refurbishment nears completion

Investment into local libraries continues as the refurbishment of Longton Library nears completion.

In order to carry out works, Longton library will temporarily close on Saturday 16 March, and will re-open to the general public on Monday 15 April.

Work has been ongoing on the refurb of Longton Library since £300,000 of funding was secured from Arts Council England, as part of the Libraries Improvement Fund.

The modernisation of the library is the largest part of the programme proposed in the Libraries Improvement Fund, will ultimately include the installation of wi-fi printing across all six library sites plus self-release printing across four libraries.

Additional library services will be available during the closure period with the Little Library Van available outside Longton Library on:

  • Mondays – 10am to 2pm

  • Tuesdays – 10am to 2pm

  • Saturdays – 10:30am to 1:30pm

The Little Library Van will offer book bundles, a click and collect service and support around library membership enquiries.

Digital support drop-in sessions will also be available at Meir Library on Mondays between 2pm and 3:30pm and at the Blurton Hub on Fridays between 9am and 11:30amthroughout the closure period.

Councillor Jane Ashworth, Leader of Stoke-on-Trent City Council said:

“In order to make these exciting refurbishments we need to temporary close the library. We will have the extremely popular Little Library outside Longton Library three days a week during the closure period, so members and other residents can still access an array of library services.

“For members and visitors who wish to access our different family sessions such as Singing Bears and Bouncing Bears and continue to borrow books, your nearest libraries will be in Stoke and Meir.

“This is an exciting time for our libraries, with the refurbishments of Longton and Stoke libraries which will modernise and enhance them both for members and casual visitors."
