Metal Detecting Club - Air Ambulance Presentation

Churnet sound news

At their monthly meeting on Tuesday 13th June Congleton and District Metal Detecting Club (CDMDC) presented a cheque for £400 to North West Air Ambulance. (Photos attached - left to right - Mark Wayman (Club Treasurer), Victor Crawford (North West Air Ambulance), Rick Frith (Club President))

Mr Crawford spoke about recent changes that have been made in the Air Ambulance Service. Previously the aim of the service was to get to casualties quickly and get them to hospital. While this still happens in about 40% of cases that they attend the helicopters now carry an A&E Consultant with the intention that more treatment can be done at the accident site which reduces the urgency of getting the patient to hospital so 60% are now conveyed to hospital by a road ambulance after the Air Ambulance attendance.

CDMDC pay farmers and landowners to detect on their land. If the landowner wants to keep this money for their own projects that is fine. If the landowner has a preferred charity such as a local church or school the Club is also happy that they pay the money to that charity. However if the landowner is happy for the money to go to a different charity the Club will donate the money to North West Air Ambulance. If something is found that falls under the Treasure Act there is the possibilty that both the landowner and detectorist could make a bit more money.

The Club feels that this is an appropriate charity as in the event of an accident in a field in the more remote parts of our area a helicopter will get there faster than a road ambulance and that this time advantage could be the difference between life and death.

CDMDC will have a stand at the Nantwich Show on Weds 26th July where some of their more interesting finds will be on view. There will also be a childrens' metal detecting experience where children can try to find old pre-decimal coins hidden in straw beside the stand ( in return for a donation to North West Air Ambulance children can keep the coin that they find).

All members have public liability insurance for £10 million arranged through the National Council for Metal Detecting. The club is always looking for new land to detect on so any landowners who are interested in discovering something about the history of their land and making some money for themselves, their preferred charity or North West Air Ambulance anc contact the club via their website - https://cdmdc.co.uk.
