New Chief Medical Officer designate appointed for Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent

The Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Integrated Care Board (ICB) has appointed Dr Paul Edmondson-Jones MBE as Chief Medical Officer designate. Dr Edmondson-Jones is already well known and respected within the local health and care system, in his current role as Director of Adult Social Care, Health Integration and Wellbeing and Director of Public Health at Stoke-on-Trent City Council. Paul will be key in supporting the ICB to deliver its key priorities including prevention, integration and reducing health inequalities. Prem Singh, Chair Designate for the Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Integrated Care Board, said: "I'm delighted that Paul will be joining the ICB. His clinical experience, as a doctor, will guide us to ensure our work is clinically led and importantly makes a difference for local people." Stoke-on-Trent City Council leader Abi Brown said: “Paul’s contribution to the city council and Stoke-on-Trent has been outstanding during his four years with the authority. As both Director of Adult Social Care and Director of Public Health, he has played a pivotal role in the response to the coronavirus pandemic. He led from the front, volunteering his time during the height of the pandemic to help deliver home care to some of our city’s most vulnerable residents, supporting the work of NHS critical care teams when the strains on the NHS were at their most intense. “Paul has helped to reform our approach to the delivery of public health services and led the development of a new Health and Wellbeing Strategy for the city. “His leadership throughout the pandemic saw him named as Corporate Director of the Year at the national Municipal Journal awards last year. “We are delighted that Paul is staying within public health in a role that will continue to serve and support Stoke-on-Trent. The board which he is joining will be responsible for the strategic oversight of the delivery of health services across the city and county.” This is the latest appointment to the ICB. Earlier this week Paul Brown was appointed to the role of Chief Finance Officer designate to the ICB. Paul is currently Director of Finance for the six Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs).
