NHS Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent named ‘Finance Team of the Year’

Finance teams working in NHS organisations across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent have been named Finance Team of the Year.
The Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) National Healthcare Finance Awards programme recognises the work of finance teams and individuals from across the UK.
The awards look to recognise best practices in all aspects of finance, including the production of the accounts, costing, governance, training and development, as well as the vital area of innovation. The awards also focus on the importance of engaging clinicians in financial management.
Paul Brown, Chief Finance Officer of the Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Integrated Care Board (ICB), said: “I believe finance is fundamental to delivering high-quality care.
“We have come together so that all of our finance teams are working as one. The overall benefit is that we look at the patient as an individual, and we’ve aligned our work with those in primary care like GPs, secondary care in our hospitals, mental health and social care to follow not only the clinical care of the patient but also the finances, to make sure we’re making the best use of resources to get that care.”
Steve Grange, Director of Strategy and Strategic Transformation and Deputy Chief Executive at Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, said: “I support the system work looking at frailty. Our joined-up approach working with our finance colleagues across the system has helped us to understand the economics of this and translate that into plans to make improvements in how we support our local people.”
Prem Singh, Chair of the ICB, said: “I am really proud of all of our finance teams working across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent. Making sure we are using every NHS pound in the best way possible is a high priority, and this award shows that our joined-up approach which not only looks at the money but what it means to patients, is really making a difference.”
