NON LEAGUE FOOTBALL ROUND-UP
MACCLESFIELD Town started their Northern Premier League Premier Division camapign with a trip to the Horsfall Stadium to face Bradford (Park Avenue) and came away with all three points to get their season off to a flying start.
Goals from Curran on 13 minutes and Duffy on 69 minutes sealed a fine victory for the Silkmen as they look for their third consecutive promotion.
IN the Northern Premier League Kidsgrove Athletic travelled to the Offside Trust Stadium to face 1874 Northwich and they hit the home side for six.
The homeside opened the scoring on 7 minutes with a goal from Nicholson, the lead though did not last long as Knapper equalised on 9 minutes to level the scores. In the 15th minute Athletic took the lead with a goal from Lovatt and then Thorpe on 25 minutes and a second for him on 42 minutes gave the visitors a 4-1 lead at half-time.
In the second half Jones scored an own goal to give Kidsgrove a 5-1 lead before Irlam scored from the penalty spot for a consolation goal on 69 minutes. Kidsgrove seal a comprehensive victory with Thorpe completing his hat-trick on 80 minutes leaving Kidsgrove on top of the table after the opening game of the season. Attendance 252.
NANTWICH Town travelled to the Vesticare Stadium for their opening game of the season to face Avro and they fell just short with Rathbone netting for the home side on the hour to give them all three points. Attendance 249
NEWCASTLE Town travelled to the Delta Taxis Stadium to face Bootle in their opening game and lost out 2-1 to the homeside.
Bootle opened the scoring on 36 minutes with a goal from Cooper, Town though equalised on the stroke on half-time with Tommy Van Der Laan netting to make it level at the break.
Hodkinson scored the winner for the home side though on 77 minutes. Attendance 405.
HANLEY Town opened their season at Potteries Park and got off to a decent start against Stalybridge Celtic as they took the lead with a goal from Stair on 36 minutes. The visitors equalised on the stroke of half-time with a goal from Dwyer leaving it 1-1 at the interval.
Celtic won the game from the penalty spot with Harrop converting the penalty to give Stalybridge a 2-1 victory. Attendance 201
LEEK Town got the league season off with a winning start as they gained all three points against Widnes at Harrison Park.
The important goal came in the 32nd minute from Stevenson giving them victory in a tight match. Attendance 364
