NORTHERN PREMIER LEAGUE ROUND-UP

MACCLESFIELD moved into second place in the Northern Premier League Premier Division on Saturday afternoon with a 3-2 at the Turnbull Ground against Whitby Town.


The Silkmen raced into a 2-0 lead in the first half with a brace from Tom Clare with goals in the 16th minute and 34th minute.


Joseph Gibson pulled a goal back on 62 minutes for the home side on 62 minutes but a minute later Macclesfield restored their two goal lead with John Rooney netting on 63 minutes. Whitby coverted a penalty to give the home side hope to the Cheshire side held on for the three points. Attendance: 740.


LEEK Town suffered a 2-1 defeat to Gainsborough Trinity at Harrison Park.


Town took the lead on 21 minutes with Oliver Harrison scoring and it gace Leek a half-time 1-0 lead.


Lewis Butroid equalised for Trinity on 57 minutes to level the scores and it looked like it was heading for a draw until Will Lancaster netted in the third minute of added on time giving Gainsborough all three points. Attendance: 423.


KIDSGROVE Athletic were held to a 0-0 draw at the Autonet Stadium against Stalybridge Celtic on Saturday afternoon in the Northern Premier League West Division. Attendance: 193.


HANLEY Town got their first league win of the season with a 3-0 win at Seel Park against Mossley.

Town scored on 6 minutes to take the lead the goal coming from Will Igoe and they doubled their lead on 56 minutes as former Port Vale player Tom Pope netted with Ollie Heywood sealing the points for Hanley on 72 minutes. Attendance: 341.


NANTWICH Town lost 2-1 to Wythenshawe at the Weaver Stadium.


Wythenshawe took the lead on 18 minutes as Callum Laird slotted home and they extended their lead on 77 minutes as Abdullahi Ahmed netted to make it 2-0 to the visitors. Town scored a consolation goal in the 91st minute with a goal from Courtney Meppen-Walters. Attendance 374.


NEWCASTLE Town moved into ninth place in the league table with a 2-1 victory over Wythenshawe Town.


Goals from Jacob Twyford on 21 minutes and Tommy Van Der Laan on 44 minutes gave the visitors a 2-0 lead at half-time.


Wythenshawe gained a consolation goal in the 93rd minute as Issac Abankwah scored for the home side but it was Newcastle that bring the three points home.


CONGLETON Town progress to the next round of the Isuzu FA Trophy as they took a 4-1 victory over Ashington AFC in the FA Trophy Preliminary round at the Cleric Stadium.


Thomas Hampton opened the scoring for Town on 10 minutes but Ashington equalised on 22 minutes with a goal from Paul Van-Zandvliet. The Bears struck back immediately to restore their lead as Hampton scored his second of the game on 23 minutes to give Congleton a 2-1 half-time lead.


Peter Williams got the bears third goal on 73 minutes and the scoring was rounded off in the 92nd minute with Daniel Needham.
