Oops we did it again! Museum beats their own record with 110 visitors attending Meet the Soldiers –
Civil War Event
On Saturday 2nd September Congleton Museum hosted a fully interactive family-friendly FREE “show and tell” event called Meet the Soldiers, with English Civil War reenactors from The Sealed Knot, Earl of Manchester’s Regiment. The museum received 110 visitors in a single day, beating their own record (109 during Roman Week in February 2023).
Two musketeers, two soldiers and two civilians sieged Congleton Museum. They brought with them authentic replica props, real objects such as cannonballs and musket balls, uniform, and weapons. The Mayor and Mayoress visited and even had a go at writing with a quill and ink. The event was covered by Congleton radio who filmed the next series of the renowned Our History Our Heritage radio segment with Anna, the Assistant Manager, and the reenactors.
This FREE event took place all day. Reenactors were spotted marching in the streets of Congleton.
Visitors also had the rare opportunity to view an object from the collection that hasn’t been on display for nearly a decade! The Civil War cannonball stuck inside a stone from Biddulph Old Hall from when it was sieged in 1644, was on display for one day only in the main exhibition room.
The event was a huge success, one that will surely go down in our own, and the town’s history books.
