People invited to make noise for Ukraine

People in Staffordshire are being invited to make noise for Ukraine as part of Ukraine Independence Day on Saturday 24 August.

The #MakeNoiseForUkraine campaign will celebrate everything the country is fighting to defend since the Russian invasion: democracy, sovereignty and the Ukrainian way of life.

It wants people to show their support by making noise, whether that’s playing music, clapping hands, stomping feet or cheering.  People should then share their videos and support on social media on the day using #MakeNoiseForUkraine.

To mark the day in Staffordshire, the Ukrainian flag will also be raised on Shire Hall in Stafford, which will be lit up in blue and yellow over the weekend.

Alan White, Leader at Staffordshire County Council is encouraging people to join the campaign and show their support to the people of Ukraine.

Alan said: “Saturday is Ukraine Independence Day and it’s important that we continue to stand together with those affected by the ongoing conflict, both those in their home country and those who have chosen to settle in Staffordshire.

“We’d like people to make as much noise as possible to voice our loud and defiant support for Ukraine and celebrate the way of life that they are fighting to defend.  I hope people can join us in making a noise for Ukrainian culture, tradition, language and enduring statehood by sharing their support on social media.”

The county council’s Homes for Ukraine scheme has been a huge success since its launch in February 2022 and it’s thanks to the wonderful hospitality and generosity of people in Staffordshire.  Over 900 people have chosen to make the county their temporary home, with many working and playing an active role in local communities.  Furthermore, over half of those who arrived here on the scheme have also managed to move into independent accommodation.
