People urged to join county’s Coronation celebrations

People in Staffordshire are being encouraged to celebrate the Coronation of King Charles at a host of events and activities taking place over the long Bank Holiday weekend.

Alan White, leader of Staffordshire County Council is looking forward to the day and is urging people to enjoy what will be a historic event and to get involved in the celebrations.

Events include the big help out, to promote volunteering, special services, and proclamations, along with numerous street parties, garden fayres and community activities. The historic Shire Hall building in Stafford will also be lit up in red, white, and blue over the weekend to mark the occasion.

Staffordshire libraries will be giving away a specially created celebration bookmark and pack of wildflower seeds to people who visit their libraries. The gifts are free and will be available for collection from all Staffordshire Libraries and mobile libraries, whilst stocks last.

Staffordshire’s Registration Service are also joining in the fun and will be offering a special commemorative mug to babies born in the county on the day. More about the giveaway is available on the website.

Alan said: “The King’s Coronation will be a truly historic event and I hope people are able to join in the celebrations. It’s the first Coronation for 70 years and will be watched by millions of people across the world.

“I know that many people will be going to London for the main events but there’s lots happening right across the county and plenty of ways to get involved. Plus, it’s a great excuse to come together and celebrate with family, friends and neighbours. I would encourage people to visit the Coronation website and search for an event near them.”
