POTTERS SIGN BURGER
Stoke City have completed the signing of former Netherlands Under-21 international Wouter Burger from FC Basel.
The 22-year-old midfielder joins the Potters for an undisclosed fee and has penned a four-year contract, subject to international clearance.
Burger has made the move to the bet365 Stadium following a two-year stay in Switzerland, during which he made 90 first team appearances as the Red and Blues recorded 2nd and 5th place Swiss Super League finishes in his two campaigns at St. Jakob-Park
The midfielder also featured in all-but-one post-qualification round match for Basel as they reached the semi-finals of last season’s UEFA Europa Conference League.
“We see Wouter as a key asset within our squad and believe his acquisition is a great coup for the Club, given his pedigree and the calibre of his career to date,” said Technical Director Ricky Martin.
"He has played over 150 senior games at the age of 22, featuring in high-stakes matches for both Feyenoord and Basel in European competition, most recently playing in the semi-finals of the Conference League.
“With his age and profile, we believe he is a player ready to have a positive influence on the team now but also one that will continue to develop during a long and successful career at Stoke City.”
