Joe Caught up with Councillor James Aberley this morning to talk about the funding
The Government had announced the latest phase of levelling up funding.
Staffordshire Moorlands District council initially put in two bids one for Leek and one for Cheadle.
The Bid for Leek which includes refurbishments to the trestle market, Butter market, Nicholson institute and Brough park leisure centre has been announced as successful.
This means £17.1 million is to be spent on Leek town centre in the next two years.
Funding from other central government schemes for the wider moorlands has also been allocated to the district council to spent with a total of over £20 million investment from central government in the Staffordshire moorlands. Plans for Leek's Trestle market include improved access and refurbishments to make it more useable for community events like Scooterfest and the twilight market. The former proposal for fixed stalls is not part of the plans and community use will still be available for the space.
