Spring Covid-19 vaccination programme launches across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent

As we step into spring, next week sees the start of the Spring Covid-19 vaccination programme across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent.

Starting on Monday April 15, the national online and telephone booking service will be open for appointments on the NHS website or by dialling 119. This allows people eligible for Covid-19 vaccination to secure their vaccination appointment from April 22 through to June 30.

The programme will kick off by prioritising the vaccination of residents in older adult care homes. Following this, the vaccination offer will be extended to adults aged 75 years and over, as well as individuals aged 6 months and over who have a weaker immune system. These groups will be contacted directly by their GP or they can enquire at their local pharmacy.

Vaccines will be available at109 vaccination sites across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent giving patients easy access to vaccination. These include 85 pharmacies and there is also support from the Targeted Vaccination Team, which will offer pop-up clinics in various locations around Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent.

Matthew Missen, a Public Health Consultant with Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent ICB said: “Due to the success of Covid-19 vaccinations, most people now have good immune protection against Covid-19 infection. Sadly we still see people needing admission to hospital due to Covid-19 causing serious illness. This year’s programme aims to protect those most at risk of becoming seriously ill and needing hospitalisation, and I would encourage anyone who is eligible to make sure they are protected with a vaccine.

"The Spring Covid-19 Vaccination Programme marks another crucial step in our collective efforts to fight the spread of the virus and continue protecting those most at risk of serious illness caused by Covid-19.

“Even though we have done a great job at combatting the virus so far, there is still a need to continue Covid-19 vaccination efforts as viruses change and people’s protection fades over time. Because of this, we encourage everyone eligible for vaccination to promptly book their appointments and take advantage of the safe and effective Covid-19 vaccines available to protect themselves, friends and family from the virus."
