As elections took place across the Staffordshire moorlands Labour came out on top with successfully getting 24 councillors elected.
The conservatives came a close second getting 22 seats filled. 8 independent councillors were elected one Liberal Democrat and 1 Green Party candidate.
This means that no party has an outright majority which requires 29 seats. This means that both Labour and the conservatives are in a position to create a controlling coalition with others.
A notable moment was when former conservative council leader, Sybil Ralph’s, who was standing as an independent lost the seat she formally held to the conservative candidate Charlotte Edwards.
Discussions are likely to be held over the next few days by the conservatives and Labour with smaller groups and parties to see who can gain control of the local authority.
Both the leader of the Labour Party , Cllr Mike Gledhill and leader of the Conservative Party, Cllr Paul Roberts have retained their seats.
