Staffordshire residents offered a warm welcome this winter

Residents worried by rising energy costs are being urged to take advantage of local help to stay warm during the cold snap.

With cold weather and icy conditions forecast, Staffordshire County Council is reminding residents that they can find a warm welcome at venues across the county.

Staffordshire’s libraries are offering a heated, comfortable and safe space which all residents can enjoy this winter. As well as offering warmth and a friendly welcome, visitors can also access a range of services, activities and support.

Victoria Wilson, Staffordshire County Council’s Cabinet member for Communities and Culture, said: “With temperatures falling, I want to remind people that they can visit any of our warm spaces.

“As well as access to books, e-books and e-magazines, you’ll also get access to PCs, free Wi-Fi and there are plenty of groups activities available to, so people can socialise.”

Groups and charities have also set up warm banks in community centres and churches, offering a cosy environment for people to socialise over a free hot drink and hot meal.

The Heart of Tamworth Community Project is one group running initiatives in the town, including a hot lunch club every Wednesday for people who would otherwise be lonely and isolated, and there are many others across the county.
