Staffordshire to celebrate its coronation babies

Churnet sound news

Staffordshire babies born on the day of the King’s coronation are set to receive a special commemorative gift as part of the county’s celebrations.

Staffordshire County Council’s registration service are behind the initiative and will be giving out the special commemorative mugs to parents whose babies are born on the day.

The giveaway is part of wider coronation celebrations which will see a host of events and street parties taking place across the county over the long bank holiday weekend.

In addition to the giveaway, the county’s archives and heritage service will also be looking back through the records and sharing previous coronation photos and images on social media. This includes a fascinating photo taken at the Mayor’s Parlour in Stafford of babies born on Queen Elizabeth’s Coronation Day, on 2 June 1953. People can search for the photos on theStaffordshire Past Track website.

Staffordshire County councillor, Simon Tagg said: “The birth of every baby in Staffordshire is a cause for celebration and our registrars work hard to register the birth of thousands of babies in Staffordshire each year.

“The coronation of King Charles will be a historic event and for those babies born on the day, it will be an even more memorable time for their parents.

“People all over Staffordshire will be watching the coronation on TV, getting together with neighbours and friends and attending special events to mark the occasion. It’s going to be a truly memorable weekend and a great chance for communities to come together and celebrate a moment in history. I do hope people will be able to join in the celebrations.”

Staffordshire registrars registered 3,555 births last year, welcoming new-borns to Staffordshire and creating records that are important today and for future generations.

Further details on the commemoration mug giveaway, along with contact details are available on the Coronation Babies webpage.
