The candidates for the upcoming Madeley and Betley byelection
Five candidates will contest an election to replace two borough councillors who stood down last month. A by-election has been called for Madeley and Betley ward at Newcastle Borough Council following the resignation of former councillors, Gary and Simon White.
Conservative councillors Simon White and his husband Gary have represented the ward on Newcastle Borough Council for 12 and eight years respectively. However, following a move to Market Drayton both stood down.
The election is set to take place on the same day at the general election on Thursday July, 4. In 2022 when the ward was last contested the both the former Conservative councillors received over 50 per cent of the votes cast.
The ruling Conservative group on the council currently has a total of 23 of the 44 seats on the authority. People wishing to vote must be registered by midnight on Tuesday 18 June 2024 and will need to produce photo ID in order to be able to cast their votes on polling day.
