Two arrested following fire at derelict nightclub

A man and a woman have been arrested following a fire at a derelict night club in Stoke-on-Trent.  We were called just after 5.45am yesterday (Tuesday 12 March) to Brockley Square, Hanley, and went to the scene with colleagues from Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service.

We’ve been helping with the cordon through the night and are still in the area alongside firefighters this morning (Wednesday 13 March).

A 63-year-old man, of no fixed address, and a 33-year-old woman, from Stoke-on-Trent, have been arrested on suspicion of attempted arson with intent to endanger life.

Both have been released on conditional bail while enquiries continue.

The cause of the fire will be determined following a fire investigation when it’s safe to do so.

We’d like to thank people for their patience and understanding following a period of disruption throughout the city centre over the last 24-hours. Emergency services are working hard to scale down the cordon and bring the incident to a conclusion as safely as possible

Anyone with any information and has CCTV footage from the area at the time of the fire are asked to get in touch with us.

Call us on 101, quoting incident 118 of 12 March, or message us using Live Chat on our website – www.staffordshire.police.uk
