WOLVES LOOK TO SECURE PLAY-OFF SPOT

WOLVERHAMPTON head to Sheffield in the Sports Insure Premiership on Thursday (August 24, 7.30) - and club asset Tai Woffinden will be in the opposition pits for the very first time.

The former Triple World Champion, who helped the Wolfpack to their last league title in 2016, is back in British Speedway for the first time in seven years having recently signed for the South Yorkshire side.

Parrys International Wolves team boss Peter Adams has also been Woffinden's personal manager throughout the Grand Prix Series over the past decade - and he admits it will be an unusual situation.

"Uniquely it's going to be the first ever time Tai and I have ever been in opposition to one another," Adams said.

"That will be a strange experience for us both - but there'll be no room for any sentiment let me tell you!"

The Monmore men are on the brink of qualifying for the top-flight play-offs for a sixth time in seven seasons.

A 46-44 home win over Ipswich on Monday moved them to within one point of securing a top four finish and Adams would like to see them build on recent back-to-back successes on the road at Leicester and Peterborough.

"We've had two very pleasing results on our travels of late and as a group we're happy with the way things are starting to move away from Monmore," he said.

"Each meeting is different though and we know there's a lot riding on it for Sheffield as well.

"But we've got riders in our team who enjoy going there so we'll be going there for the win."

The Wolves have already been to Owlerton once this season in the Knockout Cup - they kept things close up until Heat 12 on that occasion before the hosts rallied late on and finished with three 5-1s.

SHEFFIELD: Tobiasz Musielak, Kyle Howarth, Adam Ellis, Josh Pickering, Tai Woffinden, Lewis Kerr, Ashton Boughen.

WOLVERHAMPTON: Sam Masters, Steve Worrall, Luke Becker, Rory Schlein, Ryan Douglas, Zach Cook, Leon Flint.
