Delta variant cases on the rise in Cheshire East

Cheshire East Council, director of public health Matt Tyrer said: “Covid infection rates are continuing to rise and are predominantly of the highly transmissible Delta (Indian) variant.

“We have a number of testing options, including walk-ins open to our residents including local testing sites in Macclesfield and Crewe, mobile testing units, along with a range of measures undertaken by our swab squad.

“If people do have coronavirus symptoms, we would prefer you to take a home PCR test and continue to self-isolate. You can order a free PCR test kit by going on the get a PCR test web page .

“If people without symptoms want to be sure of avoiding a wasted journey at busy times, you can also book appointments online and extra time slots have been made available. You can book an appointment here on the government's get a test web page When booking, select ‘do not have symptoms’ and then “I was asked to take a test by the Local Authority.

“We are aware of increasing demand at some of our testing units and we would ask residents to be patient if queuing. Please remember to take a mobile phone with you or a form of photo ID".

Details for the locations and opening times of all the test sites can be found by going to the council's Covid testing web page.
