Local School

Park Lane School have taken the top prize in a Town Council Coronation competition.

In the run up to the Coronation of King Charles and the Mayor’s Coronation Tea Party, the Town Council were on the look out for a very special centrepiece to take price of place at the event.

Nothing was quite fitting the brief, so Town Council Events Officer Rachael Higham opened up a competition to local schools to create a centrepiece with the prize being two Ezy Rollers – a type of seated scooter that moves like a snake, a great addition to any school – and £30 of vouchers for The Entertainer.

The winning entry was hand delivered the week before the event, and was chosen by the Mayor at the time, Cllr Wilson, to adorn the cake table at the tea party. Due to the miserable weather the party had to be moved inside, and the crown ended up with a table all of it’s own at the front of the stage.

As the Mayor of Macclesfield changed on 15th May, it was the new Mayor, Cllr Chris Wilcock who attended Park Lane School on Monday 22nd May to deliver the prizes.

Cllr Wilcock had the pleasure of meeting students in the Sixth Form, who were the ones who created the crown as part of their art classes. Cllr Wilcock was then given a show round of the school by two of the sixth formers, who are on the school council, and Assistant Head Katy Wadsworth.
