World Book Day - 3rd March 2022
Spending just 10 minutes a day reading and sharing stories with children can make a crucial difference to their future.
World Book Day encourages everyone to discover the pleasure of reading. Each year, World Book Day provides every child in full-time education with a voucher to spend on any book they want. And children can also borrow up to 20 books for free from their local library, as always!
World Book Day is a time when authors, illustrators, books, and reading is celebrated annually in over 100 countries around the world. And of course Cheshire East libraries celebrate World Book Day too.
As World Book Day founder, Baroness Gail Rebuck says, 'reading is fun, relevant, accessible, exciting, and has the power to transform lives.
Did you know that:
There are over 220,000 children's books on the Cheshire library catalogue.
Children can place reservations for books located at other libraries, which are then brought to a library of their choice to collect. This is free of charge.
There are lots of activities and events to entertain children in libraries - check out our webpages and Facebook for more information about what's on. Some libraries even have a fancy-dress costume swap for World Book Day.
All libraries hold regular Rhymetimes and story times for young children and their families. These are not only great fun, but also encourage early communication and literacy skills.
Library staff are happy to help children, parents and carers to choose books for their children, as well as helping children to find information for their homework.
