Heathers the musical @ The Regent Theatre

DEAR DIARY - must tell everyone to rush to the Regent to see Heathers The Musical.Heathers the Musical, with book, music and lyrics by Kevin Murphy and Laurence O’Keefe, directed by Andy Flickman opened on Tuesday 11th April 2023 at the Regent Theatre, Hanley, Stoke on Trent and will run until Saturday 15th April 2023.  The show is based on the 1988 film of the same name by Daniel Waters. This show sparkled from the first notes of music with slick choreography, incredible vocals, catchy songs, a talented company and a lovely black comedic flavour. This is the story of Senior Year at Westerberg High School in 1989 where the Heathers Chandler, Duke and McNamara rule the roost and the jocks Kurt and Ram are a terrible twosome with just one thing on their minds.  High School can be trying and difficult for lots of reasons but oh boy this is a school all on its own.  I am not going to give any spoilers but you won’t be disappointed.  Everyone wants to be friends with the Heathers including Veronica Sawyer who does get to be a Heather but all is not what it seems, then enter Jason JD Dean a troubled young man who doesn’t conform or crave popularity but there is an instant attraction between them.Veronica Sawyer is played by Jenna Innes and Jason JD Dean by Jacob Fowler.  Heather Chandler is played by Verity Thompson, Heather Duke by Elise Zavou and Heather McNamara by Billie Bowman. This show has a huge and loyal following which was evident from the audience on opening night. I loved seeing people dress as their favourite Heather. It was an evening of firsts, my first time seeing the show, and it certainly won’t be my last.  I loved it.  It was also the first time the Regent have welcomed a production of Heathers and I do hope it won’t be last. There is age guidance of 14+ due to containing strong language and some adult topics. Heathers runs until Saturday 15th April 2023, I urge you to book your tickets from the link below, you won’t be disappointed.
