Oliver! The musical @ The Regent Theatre- Review

Tuesday 17th Oct saw Oliver the Musical launch at The Regent Theatre Hanley.

Oliver the Charles Dickens' Victorian story

of a young lad  in a workhouse in London who finds himself being sold to an undertaker for a measly £3.

Oliver escapes from his master and soon finds himself in the company of Dodger and his  somewhat weird but caring friend Fagan.

Dodger tries to teach Oliver the ways of street life and the art of picking pockets (or two)…

Sadly Oliver gets caught by the police and ends up in the care of the respectable family man Mr Brownlow.

The plot gets interesting when it’s discovered that Oliver and Mr Brownlow have an interesting family connection.

Lionel Bart's amazing  musical features the baddy of all baddies including Fagin and Bill Sykes. Although we discover that Fagin does in fact  care about the boys under in his care somewhat ..

The musical is packed with songs including Food glorious food , You Got to Pick a Pocket or Two and Who will buy this wonderful morning… Plus many more family favourites.

The performance left the audience themselves saying “please sir can I have some more”

The acting was first class and featured actors of all ages and the quality of performance was first class from the Vocals , Singing , Dancing and acting..

Stage Productions is a Local Amateur Dramatics Company based in Hanley but tonight’s performance was as Professional , Slick and outstanding presentation - anything but “amateur”.

The experience was wholly enhanced by the live orchestra in the pit providing the soundtrack to the musical .

A mention must also do to the team behind the scenes - The Sound and Lighting was exceptional and well delivered too.

All in all an amazing performance of a classic smash-hit West End musical Oliver!

In fact  Oliver returns to the Regent Theatre for the first time in 14 years.

Oliver runs until  Saturday 21st October 2023
