Saturday Night fever @ the Regent theatre- review
DISCO FEVER HITS HANLEY AND IT IS NOT A TRAGEDY

Saturday Night Fever opened on Tuesday 25th October at the Regent Theatre, Hanley, Stoke on Trent. It is a Bill Kenwright production by arrangement with the Robert Stigwood Organisation. The show is also directed by Bill Kenwright and Choreography by Bill Deamer.
This show went down a storm with last night’s audience and quite rightly so, it has got it all.
This is a high engergy, foot tapping, disco dancing amazing show. Last night took me back to being a teenager in 1978 when I stretched the truth about my age to watch the film in the cinema when it was released and my love of disco was born.
The show focuses on the life of Tony Manero from Brooklyn who only really comes alive on a Saturday night at his local discotheque 2002 where he has the adoration of everyone due to his talent as a dancer.
The show opens and closes on a high with fabulous and on point choreography, each member of the cast is a talented dancer. This is further enhanced by the appearance and vocals of the Bee Gees, ok so not the originals but AJ Jenks as Barry Gibb, Drew Ferry as Maurice Gibb and Oliver Thomson as Robin Gibb were brilliant and fantastic falsettos.
Tony Manero is played by Jack Wilcox. He is a very accomplished dancer and there is a lovely emotional solo towards the end of the show where he displays his talent to the full. The female audience members were also very appreciative of Jack’s physique too. He also has the arrogant Tony Manero strut perfect.
I know that this is an ensemble show and the whole company are immensely talented however there was one stand out performance last night and that was Harry Goodson-Bevan as Bobbie C, he is a 2022 musical theatre graduate and believe he is one to watch in musical theatre. He also performed on the the three solo songs in the show, the other two were sung by Billie Hardy as Annette and Rebekah Bryant as Stephanie.
The other songs in the show were performed by the Bee Gees.
The set is simple due to being a touring show by functional and has a brilliant multi-coloured light up dance floor. The lighting also adds to the atmosphere of the show. Who doesn’t love a glitter ball.
The choreography has a lot of the moves from the 70’s, many of which you can still see on dance floors when these songs are played, they make you want to get up out of your seat and join in.
There are some adult themes within the narrative of the show so would not recommend for young children.
If you have ever danced to Night Fever or Stayin Alive, then this is the show for you.
Saturday Night Fever runs until Saturday 29th October at the Regent Theatre, Hanley , Stoke on Trent.
