Theatre review- The Demon Dentist @ The Regent theatre

If you are looking for a proper family night out with laughs , excitement, twists galore along with some rather childish but hilarious jokes them the Demon Dentist show has it all.

Currently showing at Hanley's Regent Theatre , The Demon Dentist is one of Funny Man David Walliams book to stage affairs ..

My children and I have read this book at home so I was interested to see how well the director would portray the story.

Luckily I was not disappointed , wow what a blast this production really was.....

Don't worry if you haven't read the book though as this stage production stands on its own two feet in that respect and whisks the audience off into a place far far from reality to a magical

yet bonkers walliams-esk place!

Its story of a young lad called Alfie and his best mate called Gabz.

Their School headmaster invites Miss Root a scary dentist into the school to lecture the kids on their dental hygiene , but Miss Roots is not what everyone thinks.

If you have a dentist appointment booked anytime soon , I am so so sorry!

Miss Root appears to be a somewhat unconventional dentist , something the youngsters in the story see as they come face to face with the manic medic.

During the show we also discover that recently the "tooth fairy" has been leaving some rather weird ,wonderful and down right yucky items under children's pillows.

After the show I had to reassure my youngest (7 YO) that next time he loses a tooth that he wouldn't discover such disgusting body parts under his pillow , well hopefully not!

Tonight I took two younger reviewers with me Harry (7 years) and Sophie (9) they both had a total blast and enjoyed the silly jokes and continued toilet humour style gags throughout.

Whilst not being a full musical production the demon dentist does have its fair share of songs which can only be classed as "ear candy" and WILL leave you singing and whistling the tunes in the car

on the way home from the theatre.

In true David Walliams style the story line is fast paced , zaney and in parts totally crazy , but this keeps young ones and adults alike captivated throughout the performance.

Sophie my 9 year old normally has the attention span of a goldfish , but the demon dentist kept her mesmerised throughout from start to finish..

The show has a good blend of both funny , dark and scary moments delivered in a clever but family friendly style.

Credit where credit is due , The use of audio and lighting in this production really adds to the overall delivery and a 10 out of 10 must go the sound and lighting producers with such an audio visual masterpiece .

Every little detail had been planned and designed with children in mind. The set is bright , colourful and vibrant - ideal for young audience members of all ages.

The Demon Dentist was directed by Neal Foster with lighting design by Jason Taylor and Audio Design by Nick Sagar with music by Jak Poore

The regent theatre in Hanley never disappoints and lends itself to productions of all style and sizes , this coupled with their amazing staff and facilities makes watching performances her a total pleasure.

My two tearaways both gave this production a big THUMBS UP as did I and added to our list of favourite family stage plays.

The demon dentist is on at the regent theatre until Sunday for more info and tickets visit https://www.atgtickets.com/shows/demon-dentist/regent-theatre/
